Who will you feed: the lion on fear or the lion of courage

It seems that there are lions everywhere I look, at least there have been for the past three days in a row. Stone lions, lion charms, images on the subway, buildings, t-shirts. I’ve learned to be more in touch with my environment, with the “now” so I knew that there was a deeper lesson in the bombardation of these images. Typically the lion is about strength, courage and pride (all you have to do is watch the Wizard of Oz to know that), but I’m of a curious nature and needed to investigate further for myself.

I decided to embark on a shamanic journey to connect with the lion spirit. Shamanic journeys are easy and fun (I teach them in my power animal workshops). Journeying involves going into a deeper state of consciousness (a trance-like meditation) to the beat of the drums, as indigenous people the world over have done for thousands and thousands of years.

The lion was patiently waiting for me when I arrived in the lower world (a level of consciousness in shamanic journey work). “Why have you come to me?” I asked the lion and he approached me so that I could just touch his golden fur with my fingertips.

"I’ve come to remind you to reconnect with your inner courage and your purpose," he said. "You’ve been distracted and have lost touch with your passion." Lion’s message rang true in my heart. I had been stumbling in the previous weeks getting caught up in projects and commitments that removed me from my dedication to my healing practice and sharing my journey through my book, Playing Karma. "It’s good to fall into periods of self-doubt and confusion," he continued. "It’s all a part of being human and it’s good to be forced into slowness and to take a break to re-evaluate. Only then can you remember what your truest purpose in living is. It takes courage to live the life you’ve chosen, and courage is never easy. If it were, you wouldn’t learn the lessons that   life gives us. We tend to forget that which comes happily and easy to us, but we learn from the difficulties and hardships. These are your teachers. They will always challenge you to return to your truth and your truth will give you courage to stay on your path."

I returned to full waking consciousness after lion’s words echoed in my soul with a newfound brightness and strength to speak my truth and help others heal their psyche from trauma. Lion was right, lessons are hard and we are hard-wired to learn and be inspired by challenge. And no matter what happens to sweep us off course, returning to our passion and inner wisdom will always heal our doubt. I remember who I am again. I am healer, a storyteller, a n idealist, a powerful beautiful woman, and a shamanatrix.

tumblrbot asked: WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST HUMAN MEMORY?

One of my favorite and earliest memories is of me on a bright orange swing being pushed into the air by my mother. I practically lived in that swing; it was my favorite place to be. There’s nothing I love more than being airborne. Who needs the ground when you can fly?

A Taste of Playing Karma

They were bankers, lawyers, businessmen, and CEOs of fortune 500 companies who made the rules and called the shots in their everyday ‘vanilla’ lives. Playing the boss 24-7 would prove exhausting for the conservative yuppies who would sit at their desks and fantasize of having a powerful other take control over them and tell them what to do. Not wanting to share power, they would scurry off to the dungeon to be humiliated, beaten and degraded; likely behaving similarly to how they treated some of their employees and underlings in their day to day lives.
